IT Manager & Microsoft Dynamics 365 F&O Developer
Location: Northamptonshire
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent, Onsite
Schedule: Monday – Thursday, 8:30am – 5:00pm; Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm
Salary: Highly competitive; Depending on experience
Primary requirement: Strong experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations development and optimisation, and accompanying CRM package
Additional responsibility: Overall management of the company’s IT systems, infrastructure, suppliers and support requirements
Role Overview
Our company is seeking an experienced IT Manager & Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations Developer to take ownership of both our internal IT function and the continued development, automation and optimisation of our Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations ERP system.
The key requirement for this role is strong, hands on D365 F&O expertise. We have already implemented Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations ERP system, together with an accompanying CRM package, across a multi entity international group. However, we are currently using only a limited proportion of the system’s full capability.
We are looking for someone who can act as the company’s internal IT lead, while also driving a major improvement programme across D365. This is not simply an IT support role, nor is it a narrow development role. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that our IT systems are properly managed, while also making D365 a far more effective operational, financial and management tool for the business.
Key Responsibilities
D365 F&O Development and Optimisation
- Develop, configure, customise and support Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations
- Work across the full development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, process mapping, solution design, coding, testing, documentation, deployment and post implementation support
- Develop solutions using X++, extensions, integrations, workflows and relevant Microsoft technologies
- Review existing D365 processes and identify areas where the system is underused or inefficient
- Work with users across the business to understand pain points and translate them into practical system improvements
- Ensure all developments are robust, scalable, properly tested and suitable for a multi entity international business
Automation and Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities to automate manual business processes across Finance, Purchasing, Warehousing, Operations and Sales
- Design and implement improved workflows within D365 F&O
- Support the introduction of barcode scanning and improved warehouse processes
- Improve routing, subcontracting and manufacturing related processes within the system
- Help reduce reliance on spreadsheets, manual checks and disconnected processes
- Build practical system controls that improve accuracy, speed and visibility across the business
- Improve purchase ledger processing within D365 and develop processes to link supplier invoices, purchase orders and delivery notes to enable two way and three-way matching
- Assist with creating workflows to support easier supplier invoice processing, authorisation, approval, and query resolution and payment processing
Cashflow, Banking and Financial Reporting
- Support integration or improved linkage with banking processes where appropriate
- Work with Finance to improve visibility of committed spend, supplier payments, receipts and projected cash requirements
- Develop reports and dashboards to support financial decision making
- Assist in improving management information across different companies and territories
Stock, Purchasing and Inventory Management
- Improve stock management functionality within D365
- Develop processes to flag reorder requirements based on usage, stock turn, supplier lead times and freight timings
- Develop better processes for stock visibility, reorder points, lead times and purchasing requirements
- Support automated purchasing signals based on average usage, stock turn rates, supplier lead times and freight times
- Improve the accuracy of stock data, inventory movements and warehouse processes
- Work with Purchasing and Operations to create better planning tools within D365
- Help ensure the business has better visibility of stock shortages, slow moving stock, overstocking and supplier delivery risks
IT Management
- Take overall responsibility for the company’s IT systems and day to day IT function
- Manage IT suppliers, support providers, licences, hardware, software and service levels
- Ensure users receive effective IT support and issues are resolved promptly
- Maintain and improve IT security, access controls, backups and system resilience
- Support Microsoft 365, user accounts, devices, permissions and general business systems
- Review current IT processes and recommend improvements
- Ensure IT systems support the needs of a growing, multi entity business
- Manage IT projects, upgrades, implementations and system changes
CRM and Wider Microsoft Platform
- Support improvement of the accompanying CRM package and its integration with D365 F&O
- Improve links between customer data, sales activity, order processing and reporting
- Use Power Platform tools where appropriate, including Power Apps, Power Automate and Power BI
- Develop reports, dashboards and workflow tools to improve visibility and reduce administrative workload
- Support integrations between D365 and other business systems where required
User Support, Training and Documentation
- Provide technical and functional support to users across the business
- Troubleshoot issues and provide clear, practical solutions
- Train users on improved processes and new system functionality
- Produce clear documentation for developments, workflows and system changes
- Communicate effectively with technical and non technical stakeholders
- Ensure system improvements are adopted properly and deliver real operational benefit
Essential Skills and Experience
- Strong experience working with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations
- Proven technical development experience with X++
- Experience customising, configuring and extending D365 F&O
- Good understanding of finance, purchasing, warehousing, inventory and operational processes
- Experience with modules such as General Ledger, Purchase Ledger, Sales Ledger, Procurement, Inventory, Warehousing, Cash and Bank Management
- Ability to design and implement workflows, controls and process improvements
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work directly with users and senior stakeholders
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and take ownership through to completion
Highly Desirable Skills
- Experience with Power Platform, including Power Automate, Power Apps and Power BI
- Experience with D365 CRM or Dynamics 365 Sales
- Experience with barcode scanning, warehouse automation or stock control improvements, invoice automation, document capture or purchase order matching, as well as banking integrations or cashflow forecasting functionality
- Experience in a manufacturing, distribution, chemical, medical, cosmetics or regulated product environment
- Experience working in a multi entity or international group structure
- SQL Server experience, including SQL queries, stored procedures or SSIS
- Experience with C#, .NET, JavaScript, HTML or CSS
Person Specification
We are looking for someone who is technically strong, hands on and commercially aware. The right person will be able to manage the company’s IT function while also leading meaningful improvements to our D365 environment. The ideal candidate should be able to understand how the business actually works, identify inefficient processes, challenge manual ways of working and deliver system improvements that make a measurable difference.
This role would suit someone who wants broad ownership of IT within a growing business, but whose core strength is Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations development, automation and ERP optimisation.
