About the Role

We are partnering with a fast-scaling organisation operating within the utilities and infrastructure space to hire a Mobile Platform Lead responsible for owning and evolving their React Native mobile ecosystem.

This role is being recruited in partnership with Forsyth Barnes, acting on behalf of a confidential client.

This is a hands-on technical leadership position where you will take full ownership of the mobile platform including architecture, CI/CD, release processes, and production stability.

The mobile applications are live and actively used in the field. The platform is currently scaling and requires stronger technical ownership, improved engineering standards, and greater delivery consistency.

You will lead a small mobile engineering team (initially contractors, transitioning toward a more permanent structure) while remaining deeply involved in technical delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the React Native mobile platform across iOS and Android
  • Lead and mentor a small team of mobile engineers
  • Take ownership of CI/CD pipelines, build systems, and release processes
  • Manage App Store and Google Play releases, versioning, and deployment strategy
  • Define and evolve mobile architecture, standards, and engineering practices
  • Improve production stability, performance, and crash rates
  • Partner with Product and Engineering leadership to ensure realistic delivery planning
  • Identify and remove single points of failure within mobile delivery

Technical Requirements

  • Strong commercial experience with React Native and TypeScript
  • Proven track record of shipping production mobile apps (iOS & Android)
  • Solid understanding of native mobile development (Swift/SwiftUI or Kotlin)
  • Experience owning or contributing heavily to CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Bitrise, Fastlane or similar)
  • Strong understanding of mobile release cycles and App Store processes
  • Experience with mobile architecture patterns (Clean Architecture, MVVM, SOLID principles)
  • Strong API integration experience in complex environments
  • Experience working with automated testing and CI-gated quality practices

AI-First Engineering Culture

This organisation actively embraces modern engineering practices and expects candidates to:

  • Use AI development tools (e.g. Cursor, Copilot, Claude Code, etc.) daily
  • Leverage AI to improve productivity, delivery speed, and code quality
  • Understand limitations of AI-generated code and review effectively
  • Be able to discuss real examples of AI improving engineering outcomes

The Environment

  • Live mobile applications used by approximately 1,000+ field users
  • Complex, scaling platform in a regulated / infrastructure environment
  • Mix of internal engineers, contractors, and offshore support
  • Existing system is functional but requires stabilisation and improvement
  • High ownership environment with opportunity to shape mobile engineering direction

What Success Looks Like

  • Stable, predictable mobile release process
  • Reduced production incidents and improved app reliability
  • Clear ownership of mobile architecture and delivery standards
  • Improved engineering practices across testing, CI/CD, and release cycles
  • Stronger, more structured mobile engineering capability

About You

You are likely someone who:

  • Has led or significantly owned a mobile platform in production
  • Enjoys solving complex, real-world engineering problems
  • Is comfortable working in evolving or under-structured environments
  • Can balance hands-on engineering with technical leadership
  • Cares about delivery quality, reliability, and engineering standards
