Freelance 3D Technical Designer - Retail

Location: Hybrid Working

Contract: Freelance / Contract

Day Rate: £280-320/day (DOE)

Outside IR35

A London based studio is seeking an experienced Freelance 3D Technical Designer to support the delivery of retail environments and brand experiences. This is an exciting opportunity for a technically minded designer with strong 3D modelling and production drawing capabilities to work on a range of retail-focused projects.

Key Responsibilities:

• Produce accurate 3D models, technical drawings, and construction documentation for retail fixtures, displays, and environments.
• Translate creative concepts into technically feasible solutions suitable for manufacture and installation.
• Develop detailed production drawings, specifications, and material schedules.
• Collaborate with design, project management, and production teams to ensure successful project delivery.
• Review and resolve technical design challenges throughout the project lifecycle.
• Support prototype development and manufacturing processes where required.

Required Skills & Experience:

• Proven experience as a Technical Designer within the retail, shopfitting or experiential sector
• Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks.
• Strong working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, including Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.
• Excellent understanding of materials, manufacturing methods, and production processes.
• Ability to create detailed technical documentation and production-ready drawings.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.

Desirable Skills:

• Experience using Vectorworks would be advantageous.
• Previous experience working on retail interiors, visual merchandising, exhibitions, or branded environments.
• Knowledge of fabrication, joinery, metalwork, or display manufacturing processes.
