Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Salary: £55k-£65k
Location: Cambridge
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a highly innovative engineering business developing cutting-edge precision technology products. This role offers the chance to work within a multidisciplinary R&D environment, leading the design and development of next-generation products from concept through to production.
This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, leading projects, and mentoring junior team members while working on highly sophisticated mechanical systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop precision mechanical products and assemblies
- Create tooling, jigs, and fixtures
- Take designs from concept through to prototype and validation
- Produce 3D CAD models and manufacturing drawings
- Carry out mechanical analysis and support product testing
- Support manufacturing and continuous improvement activities
- Mentor junior engineers and support team development
Skills & Experience Required:
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or similar
- Experience in precision engineering or advanced product development
- Strong SolidWorks 3D CAD and detailing experience
- Good understanding of GD&T and precision manufacturing
- Experience designing tooling, fixtures, or production equipment
- Knowledge of FEA and mechanical analysis
- Hands-on approach with prototyping and problem solving
