Job Description

Tech Lead (Android) | AI-First Mobile Engineering | Hybrid in London (1-2 Days per Week) | Up to £120k + Bonus + Benefits

We're partnering with a global technology business that is investing heavily in the future of mobile engineering and looking for an experienced Android Tech Lead to help shape the next generation of mobile experiences.

This is an opportunity to join a highly collaborative, product-led engineering environment where mobile is central to the customer experience. You'll play a key role in defining technical direction, driving engineering excellence, and embedding an AI-first mindset into how teams build, ship and scale software.

The Opportunity

As an Android Tech Lead, you'll combine hands-on engineering with technical leadership, helping teams deliver high-quality mobile applications at scale. While Android expertise is the primary focus, we're interested in engineers who understand the wider mobile ecosystem and can contribute to technical discussions across both native and cross-platform technologies.

You'll work closely with engineering leaders, product, design and platform teams to establish best practices, improve delivery standards, and champion modern development approaches, including the practical adoption of AI throughout the software development lifecycle.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Leading the technical direction for Android engineering across multiple products and teams.
  • Driving engineering best practices across architecture, testing, CI/CD, observability, security and performance.
  • Acting as a mentor and technical coach, helping engineers raise the bar through collaboration, code reviews and technical leadership.
  • Championing an AI-first engineering culture, identifying opportunities to leverage AI tooling to improve productivity, accelerate delivery and enhance code quality.
  • Helping shape scalable mobile solutions and promoting technical consistency across the wider mobile estate.
  • Bringing a pragmatic approach to technology selection, understanding where native Android, hybrid or cross-platform solutions are most appropriate.
  • Partnering closely with Product, Design and Backend teams to solve complex technical and business challenges.
  • Remaining hands-on where needed, contributing to production code and tackling complex technical problems.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong experience building and scaling Android applications using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.
  • Proven experience operating as a Tech Lead, Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer or Lead Android Engineer.
  • Deep understanding of mobile architecture patterns, scalability, maintainability and performance optimisation.
  • Experience driving engineering best practices around testing, CI/CD, release management and code quality.
  • Exposure to cross-platform technologies such as Flutter, React Native or Kotlin Multiplatform would be beneficial.
  • Strong interest in AI-enabled engineering and how modern AI tooling can improve software delivery.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence technical direction across multiple teams.
  • Experience working within complex, large-scale technology environments.

Why Join?

  • Up to £120k base salary.
  • Annual bonus and comprehensive benefits package.
  • Hybrid working model with 1-2 days per week in a London office.
  • Join a global technology business investing heavily in engineering innovation and AI.
  • High levels of technical ownership and influence across mobile engineering strategy.
  • Opportunity to help shape an AI-first culture and modern mobile engineering practices.
  • Work alongside talented engineers in a collaborative, forward-thinking environment.

If you're passionate about Android engineering excellence, enjoy solving complex technical challenges, and want to help define the future of AI-first mobile development, we'd love to hear from you.
